The Officer in Charge of the Vanathavilluwa police station was arrested by the Bribery Commission for soliciting a sexual and financial bribe from a woman landowner in the area who sought his help to prevent filing action against her in courts.
The Police officer, Chief Inspector L.P.N.U. Pathiratna was arrested in a hotel in Puttalam town today (28).
The woman, a resident of Chilaw had sought help to evict her former husband from a shop close to her residence.
Accordingly, the woman had been promised help by the police officer to support her in the case.
He had solicited the bribe thereafter. He was arrested at the hotel.
He was due to be produced before courts.
