One person is confirmed drowned and another is missing after a fishing boat capsized in rough seas off the Ahungalla coast yesterday.
Police said the fishing boat with a crew of three had left the Balapitiya Haraspala Fisheries Harbour. One person had managed to swim to shore when the boat capsized but the two others had gone missing. The body of one of these had been floating in the sea and had been recovered by area residents.
The victim is a 46-year-old resident of Balapitiya. A search operation is underway with the assistance of officers from the Sri Lanka Navy camp in Galle.
