One person was injured in a blast that occurred in a jungle in the Ambalavanpokkanai area in the Divisional Secretariat Division of Karaiduraipaattu of Mullaitivu police division today (27). The injured person has been hospitalised, Mullaitivu Police said.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the incident has taken place when a resident of Ambalawanpokkanai had gone into the jungle to fetch firewood and a bomb or some explosive device had exploded.
Police have found an axe and several pieces suspected to be bombs from the site.
The police suspect that the victim would have tried to unearth the bomb protruding from the ground when it exploded.
Mullaitivu Police said a 35-year-old person believed to have been injured in the explosion has been admitted to Pudukudirippu Hospital and later transferred to Mullaitivu General Hospital for further treatment.
