A total of 1320 new doctors will get appointments on April 25, Health Ministry said.
Most of the post intern doctors will be initially be posted to rural hospitals. The Ministry said with this set of appointments the doctor cadre in the state health system will increase to 20,000.
Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella has said this highest intake of post intern doctors on April 25 will strengthen state hospitals islandwide.
The Minister said President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed to increase the intake to state medical colleges from 1800 to 5000 and steps are being taken to increase the number of medical students.
