The Prime Minister’s office has denied reports that Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena would step down from office.
“There is no truth whatsoever in the media reports that Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena would resign. Furthermore there has not been any request or pressure from any quarters for the Prime Minister to resign,” a statement issued by Lalith Rohana Liyanage, Prime Minister’s Media Secretary said.
“These false reports are a part of a conspiracy to disrupt the plans being implemented by the government,” the statement added.
The statement follows speculative reports that there was pressure to ask Mr Gunawardena to resign and reappoint former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to the post.
