The government have planned to use eight billion rupee grant of Asian Development Bank to provide an allowance for 1.2 Million farmer families to purchase fertilizer, a senior official of the agriculture Ministry said.
He said that the bank have planned to provide the grant a response to a request made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Agriculture Minister, Mahinda Amararaweera explained that they have planned to provide Rs 20,000 allowance for paddy farmers who cultivate more than hectare stretch of land. He added that they also plan to provide an allowance for farmers who cultivate paddy in a area less than one acre Rs 10,000.
The government expects that 800,000 hectares of Paddy to be cultivated within the Maha Season, therefore the allowance would allow farmers to buy MOP fertilizer
