Secretary General of the Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera has informed the Chairman of the Election Commission of the vacancy in parliament due to the resignation of SJB Ratnapura District MP Ms. Talata Atukorala with effect from August 21, 2024.
The Parliament SG made the notification in terms of the Section 64(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981.
Karunarathna Paranawithana who contested from the Ratnapura District under the SJB ticket in the 2020 Parliamentary elections and won 42,314 preferential vote is the next in the preferential list of the district.
He is likely to be named Ms.Athukorla’s successor.
