Parliament is set to convene from January 7 to January 10, 2025, as announced by the Secretary-General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera.
This decision was made during the recent Committee on Parliamentary Business meeting chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.
On January 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions for Oral Answers. Following this, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Government will lead an Adjournment Debate on the “Mid-Year Fiscal Position Report – 2024.”
January 8 will begin with Questions to the Prime Minister and Oral Answers sessions until 10:30 a.m. The day’s debates will include discussions on regulations under various legislative acts, including the Imports and Exports (Control) Act and the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by Questions at Adjournment Time.
On January 9, after the Oral Answers session, debates will focus on orders under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act, the Special Commodity Levy Act, and the Welfare Benefits Act. The Opposition’s Adjournment Debate will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The final day, January 10, will be dedicated to Votes of Condolence for late Members of Parliament Kumara Welgama, H. Nandasena, and Tudor Gunasekera.
