Parliament has received copies of five petitions filed at the Supreme Court in respect of the Private Members' Bill on entitled the "Twenty First Amendment to the Constitution" and copies of four petitions filed against the Private Members' Bill entitled the "Twenty Second Amendment to the Constitution," Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed Parliament this morning.
The draft 21st Amendment to the Constitution was presented as a Private Members' Bill by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara while Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has presented the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution as a Private Members' Bill.
