The Second Reading of the Appropriation (Amendment) Bill will be focused in the parliament today (August 9) as decided yesterday (August 8) at the meeting of Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, as per the General Secretary of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera.
The proposed Bill involves a fundamental alteration to the borrowing limit referring to an increase from Rs. 4,979 billion to Rs. 13,979 billion.
In parallel, in line with the decisions reached during the Parliamentary Business Committee meeting on July 21, today’s order of events comprises the Second Reading of the Betting and Gaming Levy (Amendment) Bill, Regulations under the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act and consideration of the Sri Lanka Institute of Taxation (Incorporation) (Amendment) Bill.
A scheduled adjournment from 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. has been listed where the Opposition’s Motion will be addressed succeeding these legislative reviews.
The impending acivities of this week'[s parliamentary sittings will be abided by the structure formulated in the course of Parliamentary Business Committee's meeting on July 21 on the word of the General Secretary.
In addition, a special address by President Ranil Wickremesinghe drawing on the present economic status will be the highlight of today’s parliamentary session.
