The Education Ministry states that it has settled all outstanding payments due to food suppliers in the School Nutrition Programme.
Outstanding payments to food suppliers at provincial level under the School Nutrition Programme for the months of November and December 2022 amounted to Rs. 2.4 billion.
More than Rs. 399 million was owed to to supplier in the Western Province, Rs. 269 million in the Central Province, Rs. 350 million in the Eastern Province, Rs. 256 million in the North-Central Province, Rs. 221 million in the North-Central Province, Rs. 221 million in the North-Western Province, Rs. 164 million in the Northern Province, Rs. 182 million in the Sabaragamuwa Province, Rs. 335 million in the Southern Province and Rs. 225 million in the Uva Province.
Funds to settle all the above bills have been deposited to provincial accounts as at January 31, the Education Ministry stressed. Zonal Education offices are already making the payments owed to the food suppliers, it added.
