The Minister stated this decision was taken in place due to the concerns raised by the Election Commission about paying the allowance in September due to the announcement of elections.
Therefore, pensioners will receive Rs. 6,000 in October, which includes both the Rs. 3,000 interim allowance for October and the Rs. 3,000 arrears from September.
He further explained that starting from November, the pensioners will receive the Rs. 3,000 interim allowance in addition to the existing Rs. 2,500 monthly allowance.
Customs have detected 228 mobile phones and tabs valued at over Rs 30 million left behind in the duty free shopping complex at the Banaranaike International Airport today, Customs officials said.
