The Bandarawela Police Headquarters Inspector is being probed regarding the manner a woman whose child was abandoned in a train was questioned in front of the media.
The Special Investigations Division at the Police Headquarters has launched the probe on the directive of the Inspector General of Police.
The investigation came a day after TV news bulletins showed the HQI asking questions from the woman about abandoning the child.
A statement from the Police Media Division said the officer had acted in violation of circulars regarding questioning of women and children.
The 25 year old woman was arrested on Saturday after her child was found abandoned in the toilet of the Batticaloa bound train on Friday.
The father of the child too, aged 25 was also arrested on Saturday and remanded today until March 15.
The couple was unmarried and had decided to abandon the child.
