Norochcholai police have thwarted an attempt to transport voters from Norochcholai to Mullaitivu in the Alankudawa area, arresting six individuals in connection with the operation, police said.
Three buses had been arranged to transport voters who reside in Norochcholai but are registered to vote in Mullaitivu.
It is reported that the individuals involved had previously resided in former refugee camps in the area.
The suspected drivers and their assistants, aged between 25 and 45, are residents of Manalthottama, Ettala, Kalpitiya, and Mampuria areas.
Norochcholai police OIC S. Dharmakumara said that the bus drivers and their assistants were taken into custody but later released on police bail and are scheduled to appear in court on November 18.
Further investigations into the incident are underway.
