Police on Sunday (28) launched a major operation in the Western province to check on persons if they were wearing face-masks and warned about 25 per cent of those checked.
The police deployed over 800 personnel for the operation and checked over 8,500 persons in nearly 6000 motor cycles and three-wheelers.
A total of 2277 persons were warned and released after they were found without face masks or not wearing them properly.
The move follows a slight increase in COVID-19 cases.
