Police last night rescued two women passengers and took control of a vehicle hijacked from outside a food outlet in Kotahena, after a chase and firing at the car.
The man involved in the theft of the car had escaped, after two shots were fired at the vehicle with a pistol by the Police, but the two women were rescued withou injuries.
The vehicle had been taken from outside a food outlet at Wasala road, Kotahena.
The driver of the vehicle had left behind the car on the start as his pregnant wife and mother were in the vehicle.
The man involved in the hijacking of the vehicle had driven off.
A team from the Mattakkuliya police who were in the area had responded and given chase to the vehicle.
Despite several attempts to get the vehicle to stop the suspect had proceeded.
Police had approached the vehicle and fired two shots with a pistol.
The driver had left the vehicle close to the Bloemendhal railway crossing and escaped.
