Police in Puwarasankulam have rescued a woman who had allegedly been abducted and was being held for ransom. Four men who allegedly abducted and kept her forcibly imprisoned have also been arrested.
Puwarasankulam Police had received a complaint yesterday (13) from a woman stating that her mother had been abducted and the abductors had phoned her and had demanded Rs. 500, 000 for her release, threatening to shoot her if the ransom was not paid.
Police had lain a trap for the abductors while making it seem as if the victim's daughter was going to pay the ransom, arresting them and rescuing the woman who had been kept imprisoned.
The arrested suspects are between the ages 26 and 49 and a residents of Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu. They are due to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate's Court today.
