Five out of ten suspects who have allegedly sexually exploited a 13-year-old girl in the Nawalapitiya area have been arrested, the police said.
Among the arrested were the father of the girl and another woman who was aiding to carry out the crime. They were produced before Nawalapitiya magistrate and remanded. Further investigations are being conducted regarding another six persons connected with the incident.
Meanwhile the police have arrested 41 suspects who exploited a 15-year-old girl recently. This incident occurred in the Mount Lavinia area.
With the escalation of similar crimes, the Police Media Spokesman Senior Deputy Inspector General Ajith Rohana said that they were planning to carryout special awareness programmes to prevent child exploitations and sexual violence against children.
He said that the awareness programmes would be held at school and village level with the help of all stakeholders.
