A seventeen year old young monk residing at the Hindagala Raja Maha Viharya off Peradeniya is alleged to have been forced with poisonous drugs and painkiller medicines at knifepoint by an unidentified person, Police said.
The monk had thereafter been pushed into a running water stream close to the Historic Hindagla Raja Maha Vihare
A complaint had bee lodged with Peradeniya Police by the incumbent of the Viahre Venerable Embilmeegama Pagnakithi Thera over the incident.
The victim monk Venerable Dharmarattne has been admitted to Peradeniya Hospital.
Investigates are been conducted but no suspect or suspects have been taken into a custody.
Police are trying to trace the unidentified person who had been spotted at the temple premises on previous occasions as well.
