A Policeman has been arrested over an incident in Thihagoda, Matara where a 15 year old school boy was injured when the firearm of the constable went off ‘accidentally’ this evening.
Police claim that the fire arm went off accidentally during a scuffle, but villages dispute the claim and say he fired deliberately. A tense situation was reported outside the Thihagoda police station with protests by the residents.
The student has been transferred to the Karapitiya hospital in a serious condition. The Policeman has been interdicted from service pending an investigation.
