The Mount Lavinia Magistrate courts today granted bail to the Police Constable remanded for allegedly assaulting an attorney on Friday, as police informed courts of allegations against the lawyer as well.
The PC was released on two sureties of Rs. 100,000 each.
Police in an additional B report said the particular lawyer Gunaratne Wanninayake had used abusive language towards the police constable who was performing his duties.
Meanwhile a Police team had been sent to Mr Wanninayake’s residence last night, but he was not available. A search operation has been launched for him.
Video recordings that Mr Wanninayake was trying to contacted the IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya to get the policeman arrested has been found.
However, the Police in a statement said that the IGP had no involvement in getting the policeman arrested.
Police has launched a separate investigation about the incident.
Meanwhile a protest was held outside the Mt Lavinia courts in support of the policeman.
