Political leaders ’’afraid to face truth’’ over Easter attacks - Cardinal

News

"Why are there no real investigations into the Easter attack? Why are they saying that it can't be done? Why are they not giving us the investigations into the Easter attack no matter how much we scream and ask, from the highest leader of this country to the lowest people? They are afraid to face the truth and justice. A group of cowards," emphasized His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo.

Cardinal Ranjith made the remarks while delivering a special sermon at the benediction service held in conjunction with the annual feast of the newly renovated Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Balagala-Hendala, Wattala held recently.

"I have seen the heat of the parliamentary debate in the last two days. Arguing so much means they are afraid. They are afraid to face the truth. They are trying to hide from the truth," said the Cardinal

"If they are honest, if they are not involved in the Easter attacks, why are they not allowed to investigate? Why are they afraid? Because everyone is involved in it, and they should be held accountable for the blood shed in the churches and that is also proven."

Cardinal Ranjith further remarked that "truth makes lies, lies make truth, that is their method. No conscience, no strength to accept the truth."

If a situation like this happened in other countries, the first thing those in power would do is to resign from their positions and allow the related investigations, he observed. However, in Sri Lanka, "they are hanging on to their positions like scumbags, like political scumbags."

Reverend Fathers, Ajith Appuhamy, Parish Priest of Balagala, Gregory Jayantha, Dean of Wattala deanery, Priya Jayamanna were also present on the occasion.
