A man who spotted a wild elephant charging towards his houses in Kottukachchiya, Puttalam died of a heart attack last night, hospital sources said.
The 70-year-old man had seen the elephant coming towards his house and fallen complaining of chest pain.
His son had managed to take him to a nearby medical centre from where he was rushed to the Puttalam hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The deceased was identified as G.V. Suathadasa. He was earlier suffering from a heart ailment.
His son had been making several attempts to drive away the elephants out of the area previously.
Some 20 elephants have been spotted in the area in recent days.
