Due to the current disaster situation more than 1,100 km of the electric fences in the Polonnaruwa Wildlife Zone were damaged, according to the Ministry of the Environment.
The Ministry said that measures have already been taken to ensure that about 200 kilometers of these electric fences are functioning at their normal capacities.
In the Polonnaruwa District, 50 kilometres of elephant fences were found completely damaged, while the ministry said that they will provide the supplies to build 10 kilometers of new electric fences within the same week.
