A grade 12 student of Buttla Dutugamunu National School had passed away while he was practicing for a marathon race today, Buttla Police said
The student had been practicing for the marathon race held under the school sport race. This incident took place today morning when the student ran a practice race with several other students.
The student identified as D.M Malisha Sandakelum a resident of Buttala, Weheragoda Bogahaella area had collapsed while he was running with several other students near Katugaha kolaniya tank near Buttla, Badalkumbura road.
The student was initially admitted to Buttala provincial hospital and was transferred to Monaragala district hospital. However the boy had passed away after admission.
The post mortem inquiry into the death of the student is to be held today, Buttala police added that further investigations are underway.
