The Government has decided to allow pregnant mothers employed in state institutions to work from home, State Minister Channa Jayasumana told Parliament today (5).
He said the decision was taken at a discussion at the Finance Ministry today.
The Minister said that a circular regarding the working arrangements for pregnant women will be issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.
Meanwhile trade unions commenting on the issue said the Ministry should have given thought about its decision to call all workers to work from Monday.
"The pregnant mothers who already came to work in the past few days may have already been exposed to the virus. They should have thought about it earlier, instead of reversing their decision," a spokesman for the Ceylon Teachers Union said.
