A group of pregnent nurses at the Polonnaruwa General Hospital held a protest last afternoon demanding that they be given leave from their jobs as per the Government circular on granting leave for pregnant nursing officers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The nurses noted that though the circular has said pregnant nursing officers should not be asked to report to work on a daily basis due to them being at risk due to the virus, they were still not being granted leave.
The All Island Nursing Officers' Union organised the protest.
