President Ranil Wickremesinghe opened the two day visit to India with a one – to-one meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar today evening, the President’s Media Division said.
Earlier the President was received by Minister of State for External Affairs V.Muraleedharan on arrival.
Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagachi told the media today morning that common security issues, common development and possible Indian investment would be among the issues up for discussion.
The spokesman was also questioned on Sri Lanka considering trade in Indian Rupees.
“In terms of trading in national currencies, Sri Lanka has already notified Indian Rupee as designated foreign currency in their system," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Bagchi said
Later today the President is due to call on Indian President Droupadi Murmu while the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is schedule for Friday.
