President Anura Kumara Dissanayake invoked emergency regulations under the Public Security Ordinance on Friday night, making provision for the appointment of a Commissioner General for Essential Services and requisitioning of personnel, property and vehicles, as well as wide powers to the police and members of the armed forces to maintain law and order.
The regulations cited as the Emergency (Miscellaneous Provisions and Powers) Regulations will give wide powers to the President to deal with the rescue and recovery efforts in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, including appointing any person as a competent authority for the purposes of the implementation of these emergency regulations
