People need a nature-friendly agriculture revolution by equalising with nature rather than going against it, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said.
The President was speaking at a special conference on ‘Rediscovering Nitrogen: Solutions and Synergies for Climate Change, Health, Biodiversity and Circular Economy’, organised by Sri Lanka in parallel to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Conference was held yesterday (31) at 5 pm Scotland time.
The President emphasised on sustainability which is reflected in Sri Lanka’s Nationally Determined Contributions to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and said the challenge facing us now was to use modern scientific techniques and practices to enhance agricultural production without causing environmental degradation.
Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Ministry Secretary Dr Anil Jasinghe and Sri Lanka High Commissioner to the UK Saroja Sirisena also spoke.
