President Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a Parliamentary committee today that the Government is taking steps to eradicate underworld gangs but admitted that the process will take time.
He made the remarks at the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Defence which is chaired by him.
The President said that underworld elements have infiltrated institutions tasked with public security and some were in cahoots with these gang members.
Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara who is a member of the Committee said measures will be taken to enhance security in court complexes in view of yesterday’s incident.
