(UPDATE) Upon arrival in Sri Lanka, the Princess visited the MAS Holdings Nirmaana facility in Katunayake Free Trade Zone, one of South Asia’s largest apparel tech companies, to hear about their innovative designs and partnerships with UK brands.

As patron of ‘Save the Children - UK’, the Princess also met and thanked the staff at the ‘Save the Children in Sri Lanka’ Head Office in Colombo for the work they do to support humanitarian needs across Sri Lanka, the British High Commission said.

The Princess visited the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH), meeting consultants implementing Save the Children ‘Tilli’ Programme, a Social-Emotional toolkit which supports the emotional development and communication needs of children.

She received a briefing on their work and celebrated their 50th year of operations in Sri Lanka.

Princess Anne will be in Sri Lanka until January 13.

As President of the Commonwealth War Graves, she is expected to visit a Commonwealth War Grave.

Her visit to Sri Lanka coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The British High Commission in Colombo released a statement on the visit stating “The British and Sri Lanka share many strong personal ties and common interests making the two countries natural partners through the Commonwealth.”

The flight, UL 504 carrying both Princess Anne and her spouse Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at noon.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry, State Minister of Health Sita Arambepola, a group of officials from the British High Commission in Sri Lanka and students from Harischandra, Newstead Girls, Wijayaratnam and Al-Hilal National Schools in Negombo welcomed the Princess Royal.

She became the Patron of ‘Save the Children UK’ in 2017. In March 1995, she made her previous visit to Sri Lanka while serving as Save the Children’s President.

Princess Anne is the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and the sister of King Charles III.
