A suspect who attempted to smuggle drugs into prison inside his shoes has been arrested, the STF said today.
A group of officials of the Angunakolapelessa Prison Camp conducting checks upon the prisoners and the staff yesterday (January 30), had discovered a prisoner who was bringing in drugs into the prison in his shoes.
The 40 year old prisoner was sentenced to prison by the Tangalle Court for a case involving drug fraud yesterday and was brought into the Angunakolapelessa male prison, where he was examined by the STF before entrance.
Subsequently, 55 tobacco cigars, 500g of tobacco, 1640 mg of Kerala Cannabis and two Sim Cards were found inside his black shoes, wearing which he had attempted to enter the prison.
The prisoner was then handed over to the Angunakolapelessa Police Station for further investigation.
