Public sector employees on strike today

Trade unions in the state sector including electricity, petroleum, health and postal unions will launch trade union action today (8).

Unions of Ceylon Electricity Board and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will report sick and take part in demonstrations to be held in Colombo today afternoon. 

Post offices will remain closed today due to the postal union strike, said Joint Postal Union’s Convenor Chinthaka Bandara.

Eighteen health sector unions including nurses, paramedics, public health officers and complimentary medical staff will launch a 24-hour strike provincial wise with health workers in Northwestern province going on strike today, said Government Nursing Officers’ Association President Saman Ratnapriya

Health workers in Central province will launch a strike tomorrow and in Uva province on Friday over seven demands including salary anomalies, demanding the government to increase the special allowance and fix irregularities in promotions.

Ayurveda hospital staff too will go on strike today.
