Raid Amazones, the only all-female adventure raid, kick-started their 2022 adventure near Sigiriya today with over 300 French female athletes taking part in it.
The 20th edition of the event has been named “Sri Lanka the "Lion Rock". The 16km adventure trail commenced in Polaththawa area near the Sigiriya rock fortress and the group is to travel on rural roads and reach Wewala Wewa.
Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga addressing the inauguration said the arrival of the athletes and their families will be a boost for the country’s tourism industry.
SriLankan Airlines Flight UL 564 from Paris to Colombo, operated by an all-female tech and cabin crew members head by Captain Chamika Rupasingha and Cabin Manager Anju Jayasinghe, brought down the first batch of athletes taking part in ‘Raid Amazones 2022 Sri Lanka’, Sri Lankan Airlines said.
Raid Amazones is one of the most sought-after adventure trails in the French travel market and is held every year in an iconic tourist destination.The event is expected to bring over 15 million euros worth of global media visibility for Sri Lanka.
