Railway Station Masters call off strike

Railway Station Masters have called off their strike this evening following discussions with State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama. 

The Railway Station Masters' Union stated that favourable responses were received to 10 of their demands during this evening's meeting with the State Transport Minister. 

Accordingly, station masters are expected to resume their duties tomorrow (29) and recommence issuing tickets. However, the union said that not all trains would be operating tomorrow and that it will take some time for operations to fully return to normal. 

The strike which began last week, entered its fifth day today, with railway station masters refraining from issuing tickets to passengers, allowing them to travel freely on trains. The union also refused to accept parcels for transport. In a further escalation of their trade union action, they subsequently announced they were withdrawing from duties related to the transport of fuel, cement and flour.
