A Railway guard and 15 passengers were injured when a train derailed at Agbopura in Galoya today afternoon, Railway officials said.
The train was coming to Trincomalee from Galoya.
Initial investigations revealed that the brakes were malfunctioning .
The Head guard was in a critical condition. The injured were admitted to the Kantale hospital.
Two night mail trains between Colombo Fort and Trincomalee, scheduled for tonight, have been cancelled owing to the derailment.
Accordingly, the Trincomalee-bound train departing from Colombo and the Colombo-bound train from Trincomalee will not be functioning tonight (April 07).
