The Transport Ministry has decided to convert the Sri Lanka Railway Department to an Authority.
Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that the decision has been conveyed to the Trade union and other representatives.
“The decision has been welcomed by trade unions”, he said.
The Minister during the discussions told the trade unions that there were no plans to privatize the Railway.
He said that the railway will be developed as a mode of transport for passengers.
