The Meteorology Department said that rainy atmosphere would persist today with
a slight reduction of rain fall.
A duty forecaster attached to the Department said Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces. Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Northern province.
The official elaborated that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district after 02.00 p.m.
Several spells of showers may also occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
The official explained The low-pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Island is intensified into a depression yesterday. Heavy showers or thundershowers and rough or very rough seas can also be expected as a result.
The Meteorology Department issuing an advisory yesterday said that Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas bounded by (10N - 19N) and between (82E – 90E) within the next 24 hours .
In addition those who are out at aforementioned sea regions are advised to return to coasts or moved safer areas immediately.
The advisory also stated Fishing and naval community are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
The official requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
