The Transport Ministry taking into consideration the high cost of transportation will introduce a string of new measures from Wednesday with new train and bus services and a park and ride system, Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.
Minister Gunawardena addressing a press conference said that a new express train service to Kandy from Fort leaving in the morning and returning back to Colombo in the evening and a new train service from Mt Lavinia to Jaffna will be launched on Friday night and returning to Colombo on Sunday night.
A new train service to transport office workers from the Waga station in the mornings and returning in the evening too will be part of the arrangement to increase transport facilities.
In order to facilitate the park and ride system buses will be made available from Makumbuara and Kadawatha and Katubedda as well. According luxury buses will head towards Colombo in the mornings and return to their destinations in the evening.
Buses will also operate every hour from these locations. Mr Gunawardena said that the arrangements have been put in place taking into consideration the high cost involved in getting to work and returning home.
