Leader of United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) before the Speaker a short while ago.
He is the sole MP representing UNP under the National List quota as his party failed to return a single Member of Parliament at the last Parliamentary Elections. The party secured a National List slot by gaining 249,435 votes (2.15%) at the election.
Mr Wickremesinghe has earlier served as Prime Minister from 1993 to 1994, 2001 to 2004, 2015 to 2018 and 2018 to 2019.
He has served as Leader of the Opposition from 1994 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2015.
