The United National Party (UNP) today decided to restore the party membership of Ranjith Madduma Bandara who is currently the General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
The Chairman of the UNP Wajira Abeywardena said that the decision had been taken by the Working Committee of the Party today morning.
There was no immediate reaction from Madduma Bandara . He was attending a SJB rally in Trincomalee today.
Mr Abeywardena made the announcement addressing the gathering at the distribution of appointment letters
for UNP seat organizers held at Sirikotha party headquarters today (02). The event was presided over by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Earlier Mr Madduma Bandara had stated that he has not received any written notification regarding the cancellation of the party membership for working with the Sajith Premadasa-led alliance SJB.
President Wickremesinghe addressing the gathering said “As the United National Party, we played a crucial role in rescuing the country from this crisis along with all other MPs. Now, it is
imperative that we continue to move forward. Despite this, none of the parties have yet presented their programs, indicating a lack of readiness.”
