Former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and seven others were remanded till April 1 by the Colombo High Court today.
Earlier the High Court Trial-at-Bar commenced proceedings agaisnt all suspects over the 2016 Central Bank bond scam after indictments were filed by the Attorney General.
Last week the case was taken up before a three-judge bench comprising High Court Judges Damith Thotawatte, Manjula Thilakaratne and Mohammed Irshedeen.
Lawyers who appeared for the accused requested that their clients be released on bail. However, Senior Deputy Solicitor General Haripriya Jayasundara, appearing for the Attorney General, strongly objected to granting bail to the suspects.
