President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has told a visiting European Union delegation that urgent steps would be taken to make amendments regarding the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The delegation during a meeting at the private residence of President Rajapaksa in Mirihana had drawn special attention to the PTA and said that they were going to submit their report to the European Parliament.
The President’s office announced that President Rajapaksa had said that necessary committees have been appointed regarding the PTA and that required instructions have been given to the Justice Minister and the Attorney General.
President had pointed out that Sri Lanka is one of the countries which has a long history of democracy in the region and that necessary steps would be taken to resolve issues democratically.
The President had said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic that some of the outstanding issues in the north and east have been resolved. He said that measures also were being taken to pay compensation to the families of persons who have disappeared in the north and east.
