Relatives of a 32-year-old fisherman whose body was found on a Jaffna beach suspect that he died as a result of a collision between his fishing boat and a Sri Lanka Navy vessel.
The fishing boat had been in the seas off Madagal in Jaffna at the time of the incident. His body was found yesterday.
While his relatives suspect his boat had collided with a naval vessel, police say the cause of the victim's death is yet to be determined, but that investigations are ongoing based on the damage suffered to the fishing boat.
Aside from a collision with a naval vessel, other avenues of investigation include whether the boat had struck a reef or if it had collided with an Indian fishing vessel.
