The Matale District Disaster Management Center has called passengers to use alternative routes as the roads through Riverston area has been blocked due to landslides, earth slips and trees falling.
Matale District Forest Officer Sampath Wanigasekara said that due to the heavy rains which occurred during yesterday, Riverston area experienced a landslide, earth slips in several areas as well as trees has fallen along the road.
According to him the prevailing situation had made travaling in certain sections impossible.
He further elaborated that visitos also need to be at their highest vigil while driving in the region especially during rains.
The authorities stated that heavy rain fall during the evening hours had caused the water levels in the nearby streams to elevate. Therefore they warned tourists to take precautions while bathing in the streams.
In the meantime the affected road sections are being restored to normal by the relevant authorities, the Matale District Disaster Management Centre said.
