Romanian Ambassador Doamna Steluța Arhire unfolded plans to sign an agreement with Sri Lanka to avoid double taxation, in order to facilitate trade, during a meeting with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on Monday (Feb. 26).
Ambassador Arhire also laid emphasis on signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual assistance in education, culture, sports, and media after both parties approve the draft.
According to the Romanian Envoy, Romania employs 40,000 Sri Lankans, whose economic contribution is highly valued and their remittances are also a source of economic support to Sri Lanka.
The long-standing bilateral ties between the two nations as well as initial phases to be taken to engage in economic collaboration and investment in new areas were discussed by the Prime Minister and the Romanian Envoy.
There, Prime Minister Gunawardena has further called on Romania to explore investments and collaborations in various sectors in the country, including education, agriculture, railways, IT, cyber security, and tourism.
