Fishermen of Muthupanthiya, Chilaw, had managed to secure a harvest of 50,000 kilos of a variety of Paraw fish during Friday and Saturday.
The fishermen claimed that the worth of the haul of fish amounts to 35 million Rupees.
According to the villagers the Ma-dela which was used to capture the fish belonged to a resident of the village. They said that this was the largest amount of a variety of Paraw fish in recent times.
The fisher Folk of the village elaborated that a single fish caught to the net averaged over six kilograms.
Sunday Times observed that apart from the fishermen who helped to haul the Ma-dala to the shore, a large number of villagers gathered to collect the fish and load them into tractors.
The fishermen said that within two days the fisherman had managed to catch 50,000 kg of fish, they added that the fish was sold for Rs 700 to 750 a kilo.
The owner of the Maa Dela had managed to capture a considerable number of fish during past years.
The fish were sold at Udappuwa area after getting them transported by using more than 20 tractors.
