Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Manush Nanayakkara has sought clarification from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) about summoning him to record a statement.
The MP through his lawyers has written to the CID which had called him to appear before the Digital Forensic Lab of the CID to obtain information about an investigation.
Attorney at law on behalf of the MP has asked what is the subject matter of the investigations that his client is required to divulge information about, has the particular investigation commenced on a complaint and if there is such a complaint what is the specific matter complained of.
Also if there is no such complaint, under which provision of law, the CID is empowered to investigate on the matter and under which provision of the law the CID is empowered to hold the MP to provide information.
The lawyer has also asked has the Speakers permission be sought to record a statement from the MP.
The lawyer has pointed out that any attempt to obtain information without a complaint would be a violation of the fundamental rights of the MP.
The MP in the recent week has made several exposures about alleged corruption.
