Sri Lanka has acquired 160, 000 Rapid Antigen Test kits but health authorities have been adviced to use them sparingly due to continued shortages, a senior official at the State Ministry of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation said.
The Government has ordered 100, 000 antigen kits from India while the private sector has ordered 60, 000 test kits in two batches of 30, 000 each, the official said.
However, health officials have been adviced to use the kits sparingly and test only those who are in urgent need of testing, the official said.
